Sorry for the super late post this morning, guys. I'm pretty much having a complete technological standoff right now with all of my devices. This probably means that I need to back all of my shit up and pray before something dies completely, but yeah. It's been rough. So as I talked about last week, Fall has quickly and briskly descended upon Ohio, and I've been a little slow this year on getting my usual Halloween decor out (which seems to dwindle a little more every year ... which makes me sadpants). HOWEVER, I have managed to get more general autumnal decor up and going outside.
First up, you guys, I bought my first mums:
They're purple and orange, of course. The orange have red edges around them and the purple are a smidgen pinkish, but that's okay.
Obviously, I had a little helper while I took these photos. I actually planted these about a month ago after changing up how I worked these planters since everything I've put in them up until now has, for some reason or another, died.
I added some fill rocks to the bottom before I put in any dirt, hoping that would help with the fact that these don't have any drainage holes in the bottom. The jury's still out on whether or not that's working.
The other thing I've noticed is that I think the orange mums are picking up some of the purple one's coloring? Like where the edges were reddish before, they're now purplish. Is that possible?
Anyway, so these make me happy for the time being. I'm hoping the frosty temperatures we've been having lately at night aren't going to be the end of them. At least not for a little while.
Then, yesterday (which was me & Kyle's four year wedding anniversary, FYI) we took the kids out to a pumpkin farm and rounded up some gourds:
I was pretty stoked to be able to do this, because both of the kids can kind of say "pumpkin" and we didn't get this chance last year due to finances (we bought some at Home Depot, but that feels completely different than going to a local farm and playing in their legit barn with their legit barn cats and dog and miniature horses and chickens and peacock) and I think, when it comes Jack O'Lantern carving time the kids will be pretty stoked.
As long as these don't get stolen off of our porch like they were a couple of years ago. I'll have to cut someone.
I do have a Halloween doormat and my Halloween wreath out, but that's because those take negative effort to set up. As for our porch lights and the lights for the yard post ... well, that takes some time, something of which I'm kind of short on these days. So we'll see if it happens. I hope so, because Halloween is my favorite, but I'm not going to break my neck over it. The kids don't even have costumes yet, and at this rate, they may be wearing last year's if they still fit because HOLY CRAP IT'S IN LIKE TWO AND A HALF WEEKS and I don't really have a plan for what they should be.
I am le sucking at le seasonal parenting this year. Oy.

Happy Anniversary!
ReplyDeleteMy mums change colors every year, too. I planted them out in the yard & they come back every year. Mine alternate white, purple, white & rust and the white seems to pick up the other colors, especially the purple. Weird!
